Pacific Laser Eye Centre has remained at the forefront of laser refractive surgery - it was the first centre in British Columbia to introduce PRK in 1991. PLEC then became one of the first centres in the world to treat patients with LASIK in 1994 and FEMTO Lasik in 2005. Constantly thriving to improve the safety of refractive surgery, Dr. Lin and Dr. Holland have now progressed to the safest, least invasive surgical techniques to date. Most recently, in conjunction with the engineers at Schwind Eye Tech Solutions, our surgeons have developed Smart Pulse Technology which evolved to SmartSurfACE PRK.
SmartSurfACE PRK is a completely touchless procedure – no scraping, no cuts, no incisions, no alcohol. The SmartSurfACE refractive laser system operates at 1000Hz (versus the traditional 400Hz). The laser utilizes a 7 directional ocular movement tracking system which results in perfectly centered treatments even if you have difficulty holding still during surgery. Treatment time is approximately 40 seconds per eye, longer with higher prescriptions. This one step trans-epithelial procedure offers higher safety compared to Lasik, with no flap complications, no intra-stromal complications, and no risk of ectasia (excessive weakening of the cornea). This is also associated with faster visual recovery compared with traditional PRK.
SmartSurfACE PRK is suitable for all patients who want to see clearly without the hindrance of contact lenses or glasses. It is suitable for patients who play active sports, patients with thin corneas or complex corneal topographies, such as keratoconus. The efficiency of this advanced laser allows our surgeons to treat almost all levels of myopia and low/moderate hyperopia in the safest manner possible.
Our surgeons, Dr. David T.C. Lin, MD, FRCSC and Dr. Simon P. Holland, MD, FRCSC, have treated tens of thousands of patients who are now free from the need for corrective lenses.
I had my eye surgery a few months ago with Dr. Lin. I was seeing 20/80 in both eyes prior to the procedure, but as an applicant with the VPD, required 20/20 as per the VPD's visual acuity standards. The PRK procedure was quick (32 seconds per eye), and Dr. Lin and his staff were very professional throughout the whole process from the initial consultation to the post-procedure follow-ups. I am now seeing 20/15, and am extremely grateful for my new vision, thank you Dr. Lin!

Best thing I've ever done! Dr. Lin and his team were amazing. My eyesight is 20/15 and it amazes me every day that I wake up and don't have to fight my contacts. As a pilot my eyes are extremely important to me and I recommend that anyone who needs the best go to the best. Go to Dr. Lin. You won't regret it.

The fact that Dr. Lin takes the time to sit down and meet his future clients speaks for itself. I was also very impressed with his entire team, everyone was very professional and knowledgeable. That being said, thank you Dr Lin and Pacific Laser Eye Centre team for the 20/20 vision, as well as getting me back in the gym the very same day of my surgery

My dreams came true after 24 years wearing glasses. Long story short:
I had done searches and met lots of doctors globally to perform a laser surgery on my eyes in order to remove my glasses. Every Time, I heard about thickness of my corneas which could not allow to operate the surgery. Last specialist that I met about 3 or 4 years ago said wait for technology and this day finally came.
Referred by my optometrist, booked an Info. session with Pasific laser office. I was impressed by level of positive attitude of staff during the session, right on time, it started with showing a video about two types of laser surgery (laser and PRK), Pros/Cons, what to expect and procedure.
A staff then explained more about the procedure and perspective of approximate cost. No pushy at all ! There were variety of tests and exams prior to surgery to ensure eyes are good candidates for the surgery. I had a great chance to choose Dr. Holland (There are two great doctors/specialists in this centre), in spite of whatever I had heard from other doctors, he studied my tests results, smiled and said your eyes are perfect candidates for what we are aiming to do. You can imagine what the feeling hearing this would be after years.
Anyway, clear instructions for before and after surgery were given, operation was performed in less than 15 minutes and a week after that removed the bandages successfully. My vision is getting better and better everyday (thanks to my wife who took a great care of me !). I wish everyone who has high level of weakness in their eyes could visit this centre and use the services they provide. Scientific, professional and friendly, those are what I experienced.

I am 1 month post-PRK surgery with Dr. Lin. I cannot say enough about the quality of service and expertise shown by him and his team, from the initial consult through the recovery process. I consulted with almost every laser eye surgery clinic in town before choosing Dr. Lin. I also asked 3 ophthalmologists and 2 optometrists for their recommendations. They unanimously stated Dr. Lin was the best. The type of language they used was "if it was my wife/daughter/son....
My greatest anxiety was what would happen if there was a complication in the surgery, or I had a negative outcome. Would I be able to see the doctor right away? What support would they offer me? Dr. Lin is the only surgeon who met with me at the initial consult and took time to discuss the procedure and risks. He also gave me his personal cell phone number after the surgery in case of emergency. That level of service inspired great confidence.
As a personal injury lawyer with experience in medical malpractice, I am particularly attuned to risk, professional standards, and negligent conduct. I observed questionable practices at other clinics. For example, in one case, the business manager (the guy who talked money) held himself out as an authority in the procedure, and encouraged me to consult with him re: risk and other medical questions. This was both a conflict of interest and a recipe for negligence. I had no such concerns with Dr. Lin and would recommend him and his team to anyone.
